Music that I love and want everyone else to love too. I appreciate so many genre's but Indie, folk roots, alt country, Americana, Texas Country and singer songwriter are my favorites.
No Depression is a fabulous site for Americana music. They posted a question about what artists had been discovered via year end best of lists. I thought I would share a few that I discovered from those best of lists.
I always have a hard time explaining how Texas country is different than mainstream or Nashville country. I say its better, more heartfelt, more genuine but the best way to discover Texas country is to listen. Here are a few of my favorites from 2013. I wanted to share more but had trouble getting the videos to load.
Jason Boland - Dark and Dirty Mile
"It's a broken hearted world we inherit"
Zane Williams - Overnight Success
Mark McKinney - Stolen Cash
Songs that I wanted to include but had trouble getting videos to load from Youtube. Grrrr...
Chris King - Native Son
Randy Rogers Band - Trouble
William Clark Green - She Likes the Beatles
Mario Flores - Let Your Lonesome End with Me
So you know that I'm not really a writer. Maybe I will start improving after a while but my blog is mostly about - I love this, listen! So here are the I love this - listen Americana songs from 2013.
The Lone Below - You Never Need Nobody
I know I can't see them all but I'm bummed that I missed them when they were in Dallas. I think I will definitely try to catch them the next time they come around. This is one of my favorite songs of the year.
The Head and the Heart "Josh McBride" my favorite from the new album that they did not play at their show to my eternal disappointment.
Aoife O'Donovan "Glowing Heart" Love the album. Red and White and Blue and Gold was my summer song this year.
Little Green Cars - Big Red Dragon
I couldn't decide which song to share because I love, love, love so many of their songs. They were one of the best shows I saw this year. I loved their opening. I love that they invited the audience up on stage. I just love this band. Also listen to The Kitchen Floor, The John Wayne, Harper Lee, My Love Took Me Down to the River to Silence Me... listen to the whole album, people!
Dawes, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Such wonderful lyrics and a LA band with a soul. I caught a short set at KXT Summer Cut but would love to see a whole show. This is "Most People" but the entire album is solid.
Jason Isbell - Traveling Alone - a treasure and one of the best albums of the year. I know I'm repetitive but I love the albums of everyone I'm sharing with you. I won't say it again. Just know it.
Fuel the Fire by Sarah Jarosz. She is amazing!
Birds and Stars by Elephant Revival - One of the reasons I really want to go to the Old Settlers Festival next year. I just thought I would throw that out there. Of course, my friend was accused of being "mean" at their show. Too funny. Meanness at an Elephant Revival show - ridiculous!
I must, must, must see Steve Earle in 2014. He is just too cool. This is Love's Going to Blow my Way.
Oh so many more that I love. That's why I will never run out of things to post. I love so many songs. Have an awesome 2014 friends.
I absolutely love year end best of lists. I always discover some awesome songs that I somehow missed over the year. I don't do a best of but a favorite list. This will be more indie flavored favorites. I've already started favorite 2013 Americana, Texas Country and love song lists. I think I'm also going to do a favorite lyric list too. How many days until the end of the year? They will be coming soon. I'm also trying to pick songs that I haven't previously shared but I'm sure there will be a little bit of overlapping.
Paris by Magic Man - catchy awesomeness!!!
Crazy by Au Revoir Simone - Oh how I love a Brooklyn girly band!
Dance all Night by Free Energy - a more nostalgic feel than you would expect from a song titled dance all night
Do It Again by Scottish band Camera Obscura
"Hurricane" Ms Mr - This song is way too cool to have a Always commercial at the intro. Ugh advertising, I guess that's the cost of a mostly free internet.
"Afraid" by the Neighbourhood of Sweater Weather fame. I like this song better but it does drop an f bomb. Shocking! lol
Another fabulous new artist Laura Mvula. This woman has a voice!!!
My lovely California dreaming band Best Coast singing This Lonely Morning. They just make me happy.
Urgh, I could not get League's Walking Backward to load from Youtube so I 'm taking that as a sign that I've added enough songs on here. I hope you like one or two or all of them.
I am not only a music lover. I am also a sky watcher. We will be having a full moon tonight so I thought I would use that as my inspiration for my blog. Some moon inspired music...
First up...a wonderful acoustic Mile on the Moon by Sarah Jarosz
I have no idea who this couple is but the song is "Birds and Stars" by Elephant Revival. "Ring Around the Moon" is another fabulous song by them but I'm 99% sure I already shared it on here.
Joseph Arthur "The Honey and the Moon"
"Crazy Ride" by Michelle Branch - The moon is in the lyrics not the title
Okay, who says I can't repeat songs on my blog. It's my blog and I do what I want. "Hung the Moon" by Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors
